Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, FL: Inmate Search, Jail, Records & Services
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office handles much more than patrol calls. It operates the county correctional facility, maintains arrest and inmate information, serves warrants and civil process, handles public records, provides fingerprinting and local criminal-history checks, and runs several public-safety programs across Sarasota County.
If you are trying to find an arrested family member, request a report, check a court case, arrange visitation, pay a bond, send commissary money or simply reach the right Sheriff location, the quickest route depends on the exact task. This guide separates those services so you do not waste time at the wrong building or website.
Which Sarasota County Sheriff Service Should You Use?
The Sheriff, jail, arresting police agency and Clerk of Court control different records. Using the correct source first prevents one of the most common mistakes: asking the jail for a police incident report or treating a booking page as the final court record.

Three Sarasota Sheriff Locations People Commonly Confuse
The Sheriff’s headquarters, South County Office and Correctional Facility serve different purposes. Driving to the jail for routine fingerprinting or to headquarters for an inmate mail issue can waste a trip.

Published lobby-hour discrepancy at the jail
The Sheriff’s main Corrections page currently lists the Correctional Facility lobby as open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and uses 941-861-4601.
A separate official Locations/Hours page lists the same facility at 2020 Main Street with 24/7/365 lobby hours and displays 941-861-4165 for the correctional facility, while the site footer still shows 941-861-4601.
- Choose Headquarters, South County Office or Corrections.
- Confirm the current telephone number.
- Check the listed lobby hours.
- Call ahead when your task requires a particular section or employee.
How to Use the Sarasota County Inmate and Arrest Search
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office publishes an official Arrests & Inmate Search. The Sheriff specifically warns that the information can change quickly and may not reflect the person’s exact current location, status or release date at every moment.
- Search the person’s legal name.
- Open the most likely record.
- Compare arrest date, charges and identifying details.
- Record the inmate ID or booking information.
- Check bond information carefully.
- Use ClerkNet for later court disposition.
The arresting agency may not be the Sheriff
Several law-enforcement agencies bring arrestees to Sarasota County Jail. If the arrest was made by Sarasota Police, North Port Police, Venice Police, Florida Highway Patrol or another agency, the underlying police report normally belongs to that arresting agency rather than the Sheriff’s Records Section.
What Sarasota County Does During Jail Booking
The Sheriff’s Booking Section says approximately 50 to 60 people are booked into the jail on an average day. The county uses an open-booking layout designed to move arrestees through the process efficiently.
Once an arrestee enters booking, Sarasota County describes the process as including:
- A check for local warrants.
- A search for pending charges outside Sarasota County.
- Removal and inventory of personal property.
- Booking photograph.
- Fingerprinting.
- Full medical screening.
- Pre-Trial Services interview.
- Movement to pre-classification housing.
For booking questions, the Sheriff’s Office publishes 941-861-4601.
Use Sarasota ClerkNet for Court Dates and Case Disposition
The Sarasota Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller provides ClerkNet for public court-record access. Basic public case searching can be performed anonymously without registration.
The Clerk currently describes online criminal court records as available from 2003 to present, subject to confidentiality, sealing and other access restrictions.
- Select General Public User Access for anonymous searching.
- Search by case number when one is available.
- If searching by name, verify the correct person carefully.
- Review available filings, images and hearing information.
- Contact Public Access at 941-861-7400 for older records or certified copies.
Verify Sarasota County Bond Before Sending Money
The Sheriff’s Jail Booking page currently says card-based bail payments of up to $7,500 can be made through GovPayNet using major credit, debit and prepaid debit cards, with Pay Location Code 8673.
That page lists telephone payment assistance through 1-877-EZBAIL (1-877-392-2455).
Before paying any bond
- Confirm the correct inmate.
- Review every listed charge.
- Ask whether another hold, warrant or case affects release.
- Confirm the current bond amount and type.
- Confirm the accepted payment route and provider.
- Ask whether posting the bond will make the person release-eligible.
Sarasota County Jail Video Visitation Hours and Cost
The Sarasota County Correctional Facility currently offers online video visitation seven days a week. The Sheriff’s page lists a rate of $0.18 per minute.

- Select the correct inmate.
- Choose an available time within the published visitation windows.
- Review current pricing and rules before paying.
- Remember that visits are monitored and recorded.
Do Not Mail Ordinary Inmate Letters to 2020 Main Street
This is one of the most important Sarasota-specific jail details. Ordinary non-legal inmate mail is no longer accepted at the jail itself.
Inmate Name, ID Number
P.O. Box 247
Phoenix, MD 21131
Sarasota County Correctional Facility
2020 Main Street
Sarasota, FL 34237
Regular letters, postcards and greeting cards sent to the Maryland processing address are scanned into the jail’s electronic system for the inmate to view on a kiosk or tablet.
The county says scanned postal mail is destroyed after 30 days. After release, inmates can use the public TextBehind service to download eligible photos, messages and postal mail for up to 30 days.
Electronic messaging
The Sheriff’s visitation/mail page identifies GettingOut for electronic inmate messaging and currently lists messages at $0.25 each. Verify the live provider price before funding an account.
- Decide whether you are sending ordinary mail, legal mail or an electronic message.
- Use the correct address for that type of communication.
- Print the inmate name and ID clearly.
- Review prohibited-content rules.
- Never mail an irreplaceable original document through the scanning service.
Sarasota County Inmate Deposits, Commissary and Care Packages
Sarasota County uses Trinity Services Group for commissary services. The Sheriff currently lists several ways to add money to an inmate account.

Care package |
MyCarePack |
Use the approved county-linked service rather than mailing food or property to the jail. |
Published limits and charges
The current Sheriff payment page lists a minimum online/phone deposit of $25, a maximum individual deposit of $100, a $200 weekly deposit limit and a transaction limit associated with the inmate and card.
The page also says Trinity introduced a new fee structure effective January 1, 2025. Because the county page includes both text fees and a newer fee notice, review the live checkout total before confirming a transaction.
Commissary after release or transfer
If an inmate is released after an order is placed, the county says the person has three days to pick up the commissary order. If transferred to another facility, the inmate may designate a family member or friend to pick it up within the same period.
Inmate Medical Care and Current Sarasota County Charges
The Sheriff’s Office identifies NaphCare as the medical provider contact for friends and family. Clinical information about a specific inmate requires an appropriate signed Release of Information.
The Sheriff states that no inmate will be denied medical care for inability to pay and that emergency services are not charged.

Sarasota County Jail Will Not Accept Most Property Deliveries
The Sheriff’s inmate-property page says the jail does not accept items mailed or delivered for inmates, including items intended for release. The listed exception is prescription glasses accompanied by an eyeglass prescription.
For release clothing or other belongings being sent from outside the jail, the Sheriff’s page suggests using USPS Hold for Pickup at the Sarasota Main Post Office at 1661 Ringling Boulevard.
Releasing inmate property
An inmate can complete a property-release slip designating another person to collect eligible property. The person picking up property must present appropriate identification.
The Sheriff’s current page says:
- Property release is available seven days a week except from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Property release slips remain valid for five business days.
- Pictures, stamps, letters, prescription drugs and cigarettes are not releasable items.
- Clothing may be released when an inmate has been sentenced to Florida Department of Corrections custody.
- Released property cannot be returned to the jail.
Call 941-861-4601 to confirm property is ready before travelling.
Request Sarasota Sheriff Reports and Records
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office states that reports are available in accordance with Chapter 119, Florida Statutes.
The easiest request is one that clearly identifies the incident. A Sheriff’s case number is best. If you do not have one, prepare the incident location, date, approximate time and the name of the person who contacted the Sheriff’s Office.

- Specify exactly which record you want.
- Wait for any cost estimate or deposit requirement before assuming a large request will be free.
Crash reports have a 60-day restriction
The Sheriff’s current page explains that, during the first 60 days after a crash report is filed, access is restricted under Florida law to qualifying people. A requester during that period must provide required identification and a sworn statement.
After 60 days, the Sheriff’s page directs users to its CrashDocs route.

- Check the exact day and time.
- Bring photo identification.
- Bring the fingerprint card or ORI information supplied by the requesting agency.
- Bring cash for the current fee.
Do Not Invent a Sarasota Warrant Result From an Inmate Search
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit is responsible for serving criminal, misdemeanor, traffic and juvenile warrants in the county. That does not mean every warrant can be safely or conclusively checked through the inmate-search page.
If you are trying to understand a warrant connected with an existing Sarasota court case, ClerkNet can help you review the public criminal case. If you believe you may have an active warrant, consider speaking with a Florida criminal-defense attorney before voluntarily appearing at a law-enforcement office.
- Search the exact case number when available.
- Verify the defendant identity.
- Review the latest public docket entries.
- Do not assume the absence of an online entry guarantees there is no warrant.
- Use the court, attorney or appropriate official office for case-specific confirmation.

Sarasota Sheriff Warns About Warrant and Jury-Duty Payment Scams
The Sheriff’s Office has specifically warned residents about callers pretending to be deputies or Sheriff employees. Scammers may use the real names or ranks of agency members and claim the victim has an arrest warrant, missed jury duty or failed to pay a fine.
The Sheriff says its members will never demand payment or request personal financial information over the telephone.
Sarasota County Details That Can Save a Trip or Payment Error
- Use the arresting agency for the incident report. A person can be booked into Sarasota County Jail after an arrest by another police department.
- Use ClerkNet for disposition. The Sheriff inmate search is not the final criminal-case record.
- Do not mail ordinary inmate letters to 2020 Main Street. Non-legal mail currently goes to the Maryland scanning address.
- Do not mail original certificates or irreplaceable photographs. Regular mail is scanned and the original is destroyed.
- Call before paying a large card bond. Two official Sheriff pages currently display different GovPayNet limits.
- Check the correct Records hours. Official Sheriff pages currently differ on whether the Records Section opens at 7:00 or 8:00 a.m.
- Use the Venice office when appropriate. South County residents do not need to drive to Cattleridge Boulevard for every walk-in service.
- Bring cash for Sheriff fingerprinting. The current fingerprint page says credit cards, checks and money orders are not accepted for that service.
- Call before a late property pickup. Inmate property release is unavailable during the published 3:00–7:00 p.m. window.
- Never pay a warrant caller. Verify through the Sheriff, Clerk or your attorney using independently obtained contact information.
