PBSO Does Not Replace Every City Police Department

Palm Beach County is unusually large, and a city name in a mailing address does not always tell you which law-enforcement agency handled an incident.

PBSO operates 20 patrol districts and provides contract law-enforcement services to multiple municipalities. Its current executive information says 13 municipalities contract with PBSO. The agency also handles county corrections, warrants, civil process, courthouse security and other sheriff functions.

At the same time, cities including Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, Jupiter and West Palm Beach have municipal police agencies for incidents within their police jurisdictions. PBSO district names such as “Boca Raton” or “Delray Beach” can also cover unincorporated areas near those cities.

Why this matters for records: if Boca Raton Police wrote the incident report, requesting that report from PBSO Central Records may send you to the wrong agency. First identify the arresting or reporting agency on the paperwork, booking entry or case information.

Sending Money to a Palm Beach County Inmate
