Douglas County Sheriff Office (GA): Jail, Records & Services

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in Douglasville is a full-service Georgia law-enforcement agency led by Sheriff Tim Pounds. It operates the county Adult Detention Center, executes warrants, serves civil process, provides courthouse security, maintains Sheriff records, supervises sex-offender registration, runs patrol and investigative divisions, and offers several community and employment programs.

If your immediate concern is an arrest, jail booking, bond, visit, report or warrant, start with the task below rather than calling every county office. Douglas County splits jail information, court cases, traffic citations, public records and weapons-carry licensing across different agencies.

Independent-site notice: CountySheriffsOffice.org is not operated by Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County government, Georgia courts, the Georgia Department of Corrections, GBI, GettingOut or any other government agency or jail-service provider.
Scam warning from the Sheriff’s Office: Douglas County Sheriff warns residents about callers pretending to be Sheriff’s employees and demanding money. Verify suspicious calls independently through the Sheriff’s main number at 770-942-2121 rather than using a number supplied by the caller.
Quick answer

Which Douglas County Office or System Should You Use?

The most common mistake is expecting the Sheriff’s Office homepage to answer every question. Current custody, bond hearings, court cases, traffic citations and county records use different systems.

How to Search Douglas County Jail Inmates

The Sheriff’s Jail Information page links its Search Inmates button to jaildcga.com. That is the county-linked inmate search to use before paying a private people-search site.

Open the county-linked inmate search. Make sure you are searching Douglas County, Georgia, not another Douglas County.
Search with the legal name. Start with the last name and broaden or narrow only as needed.
Open plausible matches carefully. Compare booking information and other identifiers rather than relying only on the name.
Save the booking number or inmate identifier. You may need it for digital mail, deposits, visitation and court follow-up.
Review every active charge and bond entry. One person can have several charges or release restrictions.
Use the court search next. An arrest or jail charge does not establish the final court disposition.
After opening the Douglas County inmate search:
  1. Search the inmate’s legal name.
  2. Confirm Douglas County, Georgia.
  3. Compare the booking information carefully.
  4. Save the booking number or inmate ID.
  5. Record charges and bond information shown.
  6. Check the Douglas County court system for later case activity.
Local jail context: the Sheriff’s Jail Division says Douglas County Jail has an average daily population of more than 740 inmates, including pretrial inmates and county- and state-sentenced inmates. That makes the booking number especially useful when several people have similar names.
Arrests, headcount, calls and bonds

Douglas County Daily Jail Reports Answer Different Questions Than the Inmate Search

The Sheriff’s Records Division links to daily arrest, headcount, calls-for-service and bond reports. The Sheriff’s Daily Reports page notes that arrest reports are from the previous day’s arrests.

Douglas County Sheriff daily reports explained
Report

Calls-for-service report

After opening the Douglas County Daily Reports page:
  1. Choose the report type you actually need.
  2. Check the report date.
  3. Remember that the arrest report covers the previous day’s arrests.
  4. Use the inmate search to answer whether the person is still in custody.
  5. Use court records for the later case status.
Bond hearings and release

Where Douglas County Bond Hearings Are Held

The Sheriff’s current Jail FAQ says bond hearings are held on the third floor of the Douglas County Courthouse, Courtroom 2, 8700 Hospital Drive.

The Jail FAQ currently lists hearings at 9:00 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday.

Confirm the morning before attending: Douglas County Magistrate Court pages currently display slightly different wording for some weekday bond-hearing times. Call Magistrate Court at 770-920-7540 if the exact start time matters.

What happens at the first bond hearing?

The Magistrate Judge decides whether bond is available, the amount and whether special bond conditions should be imposed. Some misdemeanor offenses can have pre-set bonds, so not every arrested person waits for a formal hearing before release.

Property bond paperwork

The Sheriff’s Jail FAQ says a person posting a property bond should bring the deed, a tax statement showing taxes are current, the assessed fair-market value and the most recent mortgage statement showing the balance owed.

The jail specifically warns that internet-printed statements are not accepted for the required property-bond documentation.

Probation violation

The Sheriff’s Jail FAQ states that probation violations do not carry a normal bond through the jail. The probation officer and, when necessary, a judge handle what happens next.

After opening the official Douglas County Magistrate Court page:
  1. Review the current Criminal Bond Hearings section.
  2. Confirm the hearing time for the relevant weekday.
  3. Call the Clerk when the online timing is unclear.
  4. For an inmate who remains jailed and has not had the case presented to the Grand Jury or by accusation, review the preliminary-hearing information.

Douglas County Inmate Calls and Messages Use GettingOut

The Douglas County Jail phone system is provided through Telmate/GTL’s GettingOut platform. Only inmates initiate normal telephone calls.

If an inmate has no funds and is making an initial call, the Sheriff says the system may allow a brief free call before presenting payment options.

Important 2025 mail change

Douglas County Jail Personal Mail Is Now Digital

Douglas County changed its personal inmate-mail process effective August 15, 2025. Personal correspondence is now sent to an off-site scanning address and delivered electronically to the inmate on a tablet.

Do not send ordinary personal mail to the jail building. The Sheriff’s current policy says personal mail sent to Douglas County Jail after the digital-mail change is returned to the sender.

Personal mail

The sender’s full name and physical return address must be clearly written in the top-left corner of the envelope.

Books and magazines

Books and magazines must come directly from a publisher or bookstore with a verifiable return address. The jail permits soft-cover material and currently limits inmates to three books and/or magazines during a 30-day period.

Books and magazines use the 8472 Earl D. Lee Blvd. jail address rather than the Maryland personal-mail address.

Checks and money orders

The jail also instructs senders to use the 8472 Earl D. Lee Blvd. address for checks and money orders.

After opening the Douglas County inmate-mail policy:
  1. Decide whether you are sending personal mail, legal mail, a book / magazine or a money order.
  2. Use the address assigned to that item type.
  3. Include the inmate’s booking number where required.
  4. For personal mail, include the sender’s full name and physical return address.
  5. For policy questions, the Sheriff currently lists 770-920-4974.
Three-address trap: the main Sheriff complex uses 8470 Earl D. Lee Blvd., legal mail/books/money orders use 8472 Earl D. Lee Blvd., and ordinary personal inmate mail uses the P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, Maryland digital-mail address.

Booking photographs have a specific Georgia-law restriction

The Sheriff’s Records page says inmate booking-photo requests require a Book-In Photo Affidavit under Georgia law. The affidavit addresses commercial publication practices where removal of the booking photo is conditioned on payment or other consideration.

Do not assume that because an arrest occurred, a booking photograph will simply be emailed without the required affidavit process.

Local criminal-history check

Douglas County Sheriff Criminal Background Checks

The Sheriff’s Records Division currently lists local criminal background checks at $20.

To obtain one, the person must appear in person at the Records Division and present a government-issued picture ID. The Sheriff’s page specifically says a Social Security card is not acceptable as the photo identification.

The Records Division asks for the person’s name, date of birth, sex, race and Social Security number as part of the background-check request.

Do not confuse a local Sheriff’s background check with a complete nationwide check. Ask the employer, licensing authority or requesting agency exactly what type of criminal-history result it requires before paying for the wrong service.
FCRA reminder: this website, a jail roster or a basic public-record search is not a consumer report. Employment, housing, credit, insurance and similar decisions can involve the Fair Credit Reporting Act and other legal requirements.

Douglas County Details That Prevent the Most Common Mistakes

  • Use the correct Douglas County. The Georgia Sheriff website ends in douglas.ga.us; searches commonly surface Colorado, Oregon, Washington and other Douglas Counties.
  • Save the booking number. Douglas County’s new digital mail process uses the inmate name and booking number.
  • Personal mail no longer goes to the jail building. It goes to the Maryland scanning address.
  • Legal mail and books still go to Douglasville. Do not send them to the digital-personal-mail address.
  • 8470 and 8472 Earl D. Lee Blvd. serve different purposes. Use the address printed in the Sheriff’s instructions for your exact task.
  • An arrest report is not current custody. Daily arrest reports cover the previous day’s arrests; use the inmate search for present jail status.
  • The Sheriff’s Office does not collect traffic-ticket payments. Use the State Court Clerk.
  • Bond-hearing times should be confirmed before driving. Douglas County official pages currently show slightly different time wording.
  • A probation violation is not handled like an ordinary cash bond. Follow probation and court instructions.
  • Weapons Carry Licenses belong to Probate Court, not DCSO Records.
  • If Douglasville, Villa Rica or Austell police created the incident report, start with that police department. Municipal agencies remain the primary agencies for incidents they investigate within their jurisdictions.
Do not pay an unsolicited caller claiming to be DCSO. The Sheriff prominently warns about impersonation scams. Hang up, independently find the official number and call 770-942-2121 to verify the claim.

What sheriff office task do you need help with?

Choose your situation. The tool will suggest the safest next step, what to prepare, and which official resource to check first.

If this is an emergency, a crime in progress, a threat to life, or immediate danger, call 911. This website is not a sheriff office, jail, court, legal service, or emergency service.
Fastest safe order

Start with the official sheriff or jail roster, confirm custody by phone only when needed, then check court records for hearings or case details.

Scam warning

Do not pay anyone who calls demanding gift cards, crypto, wire transfers, or urgent warrant payment. Verify through official sheriff channels.

Inmate Search Step Helper

Use this before searching a jail roster or inmate lookup portal. It helps you choose the best search method and avoid wrong-person matches.

Bond, Release and Custody Status Helper

Use this to organize what to check before asking about bond, release timing, facility location or court status.

Visitation, Phone and Mail Checklist

Use this before planning a jail visit, video visit, inmate phone setup, commissary deposit, or mail delivery.

Warrant Information Safety Helper

Use this if you are trying to understand warrant information safely. This tool does not confirm warrants and does not provide legal advice.

If you believe you may have an active warrant, consider speaking with a licensed criminal defense attorney before going to any law enforcement office. Do not ignore court notices.

Sheriff Report and Arrest Record Request Helper

Use this before requesting accident reports, incident reports, arrest records, jail records, public records or background-related information.

Sheriff Call / Warrant Payment Scam Checker

Use this if someone called, texted, emailed or messaged you claiming to be from a sheriff office, court, jail, deputy or warrant unit.

Official Sheriff Office Resource Finder

Enter county and state to create safe searches for official sheriff websites, jail rosters, inmate lookup, warrants, visitation, records requests, court records and this site’s guide.

Sheriff Office vs Court vs Jail

  • Sheriff/Jail: custody, booking, jail roster, visitation, inmate mail, some warrants.
  • Court/Clerk: case status, hearings, court records, fines, court dates.
  • Attorney: legal advice, warrant risk, criminal charges, bond strategy.

Best sitewide placement

Add this tool after the first inmate-search or contact section, or before FAQs. It turns a normal guide into a practical action page.
