UCSO Patrols the County, but Some Towns Have Their Own Police

The Sheriff currently maintains contract-deputy programs in Weddington, Lake Park, Wesley Chapel, Marvin and Wingate, along with a large dedicated contract division serving Indian Trail.

The current Sheriff page says the Jail Medical Department does not accept medication bottles containing medication. It does accept empty prescription bottles so medical staff can verify a valid prescription and obtain medication as appropriate.

The County currently says a request requiring more than four hours of combined staff time can incur a special service charge of $40 per hour after the initial four hours, in addition to applicable copy charges. The County says an estimate is provided in advance when this charge applies.

For a first application, current Sheriff instructions require approved firearms-safety training, valid photo ID showing the Union County address, fingerprints and other required application documents.
Concealed-handgun fingerprints are conducted only at the Main Union County Sheriff’s Office, 3370 Presson Road.
The Sheriff says renewal applications may be submitted beginning 90 days before expiration. Allowing a permit to expire can cause the applicant to be treated as a new applicant under the Sheriff’s published process.

The Civil Services Bureau handles court-issued civil process including evictions, summonses, domestic-violence protective orders, juvenile documents and writs.
Evictions begin with the court, not the Sheriff
The Sheriff’s eviction guidance explains that a landlord generally first files the required summary-ejectment action with the Union County Clerk of Superior Court.
If the landlord obtains the necessary judgment and the tenant does not leave during the court-ordered period, the landlord can return to the Clerk to seek a Writ of Possession. The Clerk sends the writ to the Sheriff for execution.
The current Sheriff page says that once UCSO receives the Writ of Possession, an eviction date is set and the landlord or representative must be present at the scheduled execution to change the locks after deputies complete the eviction process.

Union County Sheriff’s Animal Services handles stray animals, animal bites, nuisance complaints, cruelty investigations and shelter services.
The Sheriff says stray animals brought to the shelter are scanned for a microchip and generally held for at least 72 hours before being evaluated for adoption.
